Our story
Fern & Fauna was founded by artist and nature lover Kelcie Mitchell as a way to unite her deepest passions — creativity, ecology, and the restorative beauty of the natural world. What began as a personal love for gardens, wild places, and artistic expression has evolved into a holistic landscape practice centered on creating spaces that invite people into a more meaningful relationship with nature.
Inspired by the belief that landscapes can both nurture and be nurtured, Fern and Fauna approaches each project as a living collaboration between people, place, and ecosystem. Kelcie’s artistic background informs a design process that is intuitive, layered, and deeply attentive to atmosphere, texture, movement, and feeling. Every garden is envisioned not simply as a designed space, but as an experience — one that encourages presence, connection, and a sense of being held by the natural world.
At the heart of Fern and Fauna’s philosophy is the understanding that nature offers more than beauty alone. Thoughtful landscapes can provide refuge, restoration, habitat, and belonging. By carefully considering the rhythms of the land — sunlight, water flow, native ecology, seasonal change, and the unique spirit of a place — we create environments that feel harmonious, alive, and enduring.
Whether designing intimate home gardens or stewarding evolving landscapes over time, our work is guided by a desire to cultivate reciprocity between people and the earth. Through design, planting, and care, Fern and Fauna seeks to create spaces that inspire a deeper connection to nature and invite everyday moments of wonder, grounding, and renewal.
